When you think of a maternity session, you think of pastel gowns, bright airy days, soft smiles, holding hands over rounded bellies, sweet booties. As a society we so often look forward, breathlessly awaiting that NEXT. The next session showing a sweet bouncy baby, the next holiday to see posed holiday themed children's photos, the next wedding in a family to ooooo and ahh over a lovely bride. Sometimes, the past is briefly touched on through a token: a grandmother's baby bonnet passed down, a picture of a loved one on a bouquet. How many times do you really take that idea of what has come before, and meld into one image with what comes after? This has long been a running dialogue in my head. Something eternally beautiful about an elegant woman on the cusp of birth giving homage to those who brought her here.

I have a few people in my life who can attest that I've long wanted to do a maternity session in a graveyard, and then came Laura. My beautiful friend who is so vivacious and would look stunning in red. The perfect contrast to a dark colorless winter day amidst old stones. The perfect graveyard where many of my own ancestors are buried, that has a huge historical impact on the area, and gave us appropriate permissions and rules for our session. With this crazy weather we have had, we even ended up with a perfect day. It all came together perfectly and the impact the photos have had on my art and passion for what I do are incredible.

My assistants were invaluable and while the photos may look serious, I promise we had a blast (and maybe one day, I will get a blooper reel put together but that's another post for another day.) This entire session could not have been pulled off without the full crew and I'm excited to say I am looking forward to future maternity sessions. I would love to design a creative and engaging session that is perfect for you.
I hope you love this as much as I do! Leave me some comments and tell us what you think of this out of the box maternity session! XOXO~Krista
