This weekend is the last Hoorah of summer, but the weather is already singing sweet fall. The heat may be holding on in NC, but the leaves are showing changes, the morning air is crisp and cool. All I want to do is drink warm latte's and plant mums while placing pumpkins (real and fake) EVERYWHERE. If there is a spot I can put a pumpkin, it gets a pumpkin! Fall is my absolute favorite!
Stephen's favorite holiday is Halloween and we have been planning out costumes for different events for awhile now. (Stay tuned for a special edition Halloween Bucket List) We will have to make our annual pilgrimage to the Spirit Store in the next week or so. Just like summer there are so many traditional fall activities that are perfect family moments and photo opportunities. We do not get to do them all because Fall is actually our biggest wedding season so we are strapped for time on the weekends.
Like summer, I am going to make an effort to do a FEW from my personal fall list. What screams fall to you? Hot cider and trips to the apple orchard? Pumpkin patches and lattes? Cotton candy and a county fair? We hope you enjoy our free downloadable bucket list OR make your own with our blank copy! Tell us what's on your personal fall bucket list in the comments!

It always makes me a little sad when the heated days of summer come to an end. The slower sizzling afternoons by the pool, the laughter and fun of kids around, and the long evenings with friends by a grill. I miss my kids and the slower work days but at the same time there is always a little bit of freedom and a return to a schedule that makes me feel more productive.
I hope you were able to use our downloadable Summer Bucket List or create one of your own! We would love to see your photos from your adventures! Link us to your blog, album, page or post a photo in the comments!
“With all these lovely tokens of September days are here, with summers best of weather and the autumns best of cheer.”

Enjoy a few moments from our Summer Bucket List and come back next week for the Official Fall kickoff and free Fall Bucket List Download!

You hear it often. "Every little girl dreams of her wedding day." "Every little girl's dream dress". I know some children and teens plan their weddings. I remember keeping notebooks of magazine clippings and drawings for everything. One for my wedding, one for travel, and one for interior decorating. This was before Pinterest (actually BEFORE internet though I hate to admit that!). I can't possibly be the only one! What did your dream wedding look like when you were young?
Now it is much easier with Pinterest and online files to dream of weddings. My daughter LOVES being a flower girl and dressing up for photos and she often talks about what she will do for her wedding. So what would it look like if a little girl had a dream come true? Would it translate into an adult wedding? We all know some little girls would pick a rainbow theme and ride in on a unicorn and really with the capabilities of today's trends, that is not totally out of the question. Like all little girls though, my daughter changes her mind daily. She is consistent on many things but she goes through phases on colors etc. One month it is everything PINK, the next she loves all things AQUA or MINT.
This summer she was all about Peaches and Giraffes. (She's always loved giraffes and has a herd of them on her bed that she rotates for nightly cuddles). Some amazing vendors and I decided to make a little girl's dream wedding a reality and it was beautiful! I hope you journey with us for this look at a Little Girl's Peach Dream Wedding. Be sure to watch the video here: It's a magical story!
It all begins with an idea. Every wedding does right? A Walk through a peach orchard with your favorite dude...aka Max the Giraffe imagining dancing on your wedding day with your groom sparks a lifelong dream of what your romance will be. Millstone Creek Orchard in Ramseur opened their beautiful orchard to us at sunset to dance amongst the trees and dream peachy dreams.
We invite you to a day of Peach Wedding Play in this dreamy wedding styled session! Invitations by the AMAZING Taaenoelle and Co!
The sweetest dreams turn into a beautiful wedding. An amazing stage was set at The Longhouse Event Venue in Stokesdale, NC. Anna, the amazing director there collaborated with me from day one on developing the ideas for this summer shindig and we were so excited when this Peach Dream wedding inspiration hit. We sent our very own Pinterest Board to Dahlia's Floral Designs (of Clemmons area) and Rosa Mae's Catering who provided some amazing decor, flowers, and food to compliment what Anna had designed. A gang of kids ready to play in party clothes provided by Suburban Made and Black Tie Formal Wear topped off by styling from Reflections Hair Salon (all of High Point).
What would this dream wedding entail without the future version of Katie to enjoy this childhood vision? Lauren and Nate were the perfect couple for our story! Dresses and accessories provided by Songbirds Consignment were perfect for this sweet southern fairy tale.
What would a child's play day (or adult reception) be without cookies and custom drinks? NM's Cookies and Bungalow and Brews are always a perfect treat for any party or event!
We want to thank ALL the vendors who were inspired with this session and assisted not only on their parts but on the production side. In addition to the above, Amanda K Creative handled video and to the parents of all our sweet kids who came to play, thank you, thank you, thank you. We hope your sweet kids enjoyed working with us too!
We will send you on your way to dreamland, with a royal exit fit for any bride but especially a little princess with a carriage ride into the sunset by Dorvit's Carriage Rides. It may not be a unicorn but these beautiful gypsy horses and pristine carriages are definitely a dream come true!
We hope you are all dreaming of beauty and fairy tales and that they all come true for you. All of these amazing vendors are here for you and we hope we inspire you for your beautiful days to come! Comment and tell us what you think of our "A Little Girls Dream Come True: Peach Dream Wedding".

The summer is in full swing, and even perhaps on the downhill slope toward fall. The longest day of the year has past us and people are starting to wilt like cut flowers at the end of the long dry days. My grass crackles under my feet as its parched blades weep into the dry dust. Every day I get hopeful that a pop up storm will give us some relief but they all continue to miss us.
This hot dry weather makes me think of dry deserts, prickly cactus and the colors of a canyon. What fabulous inspiration for a wedding. Cactus and Succulents have seen a trending increase over the past few years (showing up strong in 2017) and are not showing signs of departing anytime soon so items are readily available to help you create the perfect mood. You can bring in this theme just a little or a whole heckuva lot! Pair it with modern, traditional, rustic or vintage. We chose to bring in a vintage vibe in this BOHO Glam Cactus styled Session! I hope this encourages you to find your own style and explore possibilities for your big day! Check out this amazing list of vendors who came together for this!

Did you know the Theory of Christmas in July dates back to 1892 from a French play? It was further ingrained when churches started doing Christmas programs in July to increase donations for presents to be distributed for charity at actual Christmas time.
Through the decades various industries, companies and organizations have used “Christmas in July” as themes to kick off campaigns, create awareness ahead of the season etc. For example, the US POSTAL Service in conjunction with the military who used the theme in 1944 at a luncheon in NY, to kick off an overseas mailing campaign for service personnel.
In more recent years, it has become an annual tradition for companies like Hallmark and QVC to coincide with item releases such as the keepsake collection of ornaments.
Christmas in July is not exclusive to the United States and merchandising opportunities but celebrated (in small amounts) around the world in places like Denmark, Canada, Australia, Madagascar, Bolivia, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, South Africa and New Zealand.
Many people go as far as having small celebrations, small scale decoration and even presents. For an actual Christmas in July celebration many people use July 25th but July 12th is also popular as the halfway point to Christmas (Half of 24 (Christmas eve) is 12 and Half of 12 (December) is 6/July).
Recently, I have seen some beautiful white trees with RED and Blue décor to celebrate 4th of July and Christmas in July simultaneously. While we do not go so far as doing an actual Christmas celebration, I do enjoy watching the Hallmark movies, browsing store selections and seeing what is poplar for the year décor wise.
More importantly we start getting active on our Santa Portrait Group (Facebook) and booking our time slots for Santa/Holiday Photos. This is the time of year I have to start organizing our Holiday Calendar, making sure paperwork is filed with the Parade organizers for our float and will often have a tent at a local festival. This year we will be in Kernersville at the 50th Anniversary of the Kernersville Raider’s Carshow! GO RAIDERS!
I also lock in our official Design tweaks to our Santa set and start shopping for items needed. I like to go Antique shopping at this time of year to bring in “new” vintage toys for the set. I have already picked up a few new pieces and am so excited about the updated set(s).
Now, we ALWAYS get a little flack for being so GUNG HO Christmas (even though I try to keep social media blasts low key). There’re always some naysayers with their undies in a twist when Hobby Lobby puts out their Christmas merchandise but here is what I have to say about all that. People who craft, who decorate professionally, who build sets or basically do ANYTHING that relies on holiday items to earn income HAVE to be 6 months ahead of the holidays to profit from them. (I know, I said the evil P word. While I love photography -another P word-, I do have to make a living so yes, Santa Photography needs to contribute to my income no matter how much fun I have doing it!) Honestly, when people show up at those fall festivals, and Santa sets in November, I don’t hear any complaints about everyone being prepared (look another P word).
So enjoy a refreshing blitz of Christmas during the draining heat of summer, and check out our available dates and book your time slots! Our Snowy window will be back better than ever this year and our set is getting an upgrade and going traditional in colors! As always, we will be working with our amazing Hall of Fame Santa Jac!

So what could be better than a baseball themed wedding? This is no three strikes your out situation. This was a HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK, HOME RUN love story! Kurt and Sarah had this outwardly relaxed demeanor upon our first meeting. They were organized and on point, and how could they not be? They hired an amazing planner to oversee their day! The details were amazing and they were relaxed and confident from beginning to end. Every moment was beautiful, detailed and fun.
One of the most amazing parts for me as a photographer, was the extra time built in between their traditional church ceremony and the reception. Most weddings we are confined to 45 minutes to an hour on site for formal photos. We had just over 2 hours for formals with Kurt and Sarah and had the best time moving locations and photographing SO MANY portraits and just having FUN on their day!
Despite the rain, these are by far (and maybe because of the rain) some of my favorite photos. Locations, extra time, a fun relaxed group all made for AH-mazing wedding photos. For Video Highlights of their day go HERE! Check out this group of vendors and enjoy photos of their big day!

It’s summer time!! Time for vacations, stay-cations and heat. For me, that also means getting my work done around kids, extra yard work, and gardening. I have a slightly slower wedding schedule since I do not book as many in the summer because my kids are young and at home. So this is a great time to enjoy vibrant summer colors: blues, hot pinks, citrus yellow, vivid greens, a time to take in all the beauty, the heat and ICE CREAM!
Even though I have a lighter wedding schedule, I often feel my work schedule picks up in other ways. We do a ton of bridal sessions and engagement sessions for our fall and spring wedding clients. We do more meetings plus I am in holiday planning mode so that my sets etc are ready to go while I’m in the middle of crazy fall wedding season. This business rarely slows completely down, just the to do list changes a bit.
I tend to get caught up in business and put it first. My clients are important to me but so are my family. So this summer, I decided to not just make a “project” list of things I want to get done, but a BUCKET list of things I want to do. Traditions like going to the drive-in theater. Fun moments that inspire me from my own childhood: eating watermelon on the porch. Basically a list of colorful summer inspired moments that I want to share with my kids. I’m going to take it one step further and try to get a few “perfect” photos that capture each of those moments. I’m notorious for not photographing my own kids. When I get home from work, I put my cameras away and occasionally remember to “snap” a few photos with my phone. I’m really noticing that my kids are growing up and I am not capturing that for myself as much as I should be. You would think as a photographer, my kids would be well documented but I guarantee they have fewer photos of themselves than any of their peers! (I know, bad mommy!)
So I would love to learn all about your summer plans! What inspires you? Comment and share what is on your summer bucket list. To inspire you, here is my Bucket List as a free download. You are welcome to use this for your own summer inspiration or use my blank template I created to make your own customized version!
I can’t wait to see your summer!

"The Red Nose Day Fund provides grants annually to charities who demonstrate they are doing work in the US and overseas to help end child poverty." You can find out more information about the campaign on the website.
I am all for giving back. We (the family behind Magnolia Ridge) have been blessed many times over and continue to work with amazing couples. We work a lot with animal charity programs as they are close to our heart but we have also walked and contributed to such events as The March of Dimes and The Colon Cancer Walk, The Hero Run (Dress as a Superhero to raise money and awareness for Lung Cancer).
It was a distinct pleasure to photograph the wedding of a Walgreen's Pharmacist back in 2017 who had the heart to incorporate the company charity into her big day! Red Noses at a Wedding! This playful couple was so much fun through the whole day but it really made my heart happy to see how willing and eager they were to create awareness and support this charity! Let's get ready to celebrate Red Nose day on May 23rd, 2019 with a look back at all the Red Nose Fun at their wedding. Don't forget to go to Walgreen's and pick up your Red Noses and show them off at work, play, and social media on the 23rd!!!
Why is a Wedding Photographer talking about giving grace? Because no matter how hard we think someone or something is hard on us, we are always hardest on ourselves (and our own children!). I see it all the time. Parents want the perfect picture with Santa but are unsure how their child is going to react or get upset/try bribery, apologize for behavior. I promise you. Santa and I? We have seen it all. It doesn't bother us and we have the patience to deal with the situation. Child is nervous and doesn't give a true smile in every photo? It's okay. It's a moment in time and children have moods, emotions, moments as they learn to adapt to their environments, react to situations and pressures.
Are we as parents giving our children grace when needed or expecting too much of them in the situations we put them in? Are they upset about an outcome or are you? It's okay to expect or want but we need to know when to apply grace to others and ourselves.
Mother-in-law, grandmother, bridesmaid, whoever causing issues or being difficult on your wedding day? It's okay. Do not apologize to us for their behavior. We have seen it all and we know how to deal with difficult family and friends. We will do our best to diffuse and create moments of happiness for photos so you don't look back and see sour faces. The thing is, we are accustomed to dealing with these situations and its okay, I promise. Breathe and give grace. Don't let others affect your moment.
People get so caught up in perfection. The perfect wedding, the perfect portrait, the instagram worthy/ pinterest perfect event and moment to share and remember.
The definition of Perfect: (adjective) conforming absolutely to the description or definition of an ideal type. So really what is perfection? It is OUR own preconceived notions of what we think we want. Where do we get those notions? From other peoples weddings? Other people's portraits? Are we measuring our own moments against an entirely different set of personalities, situations, and moments that have nothing to do with us? Has social media done more harm than good when it comes to the idea of what our life moments SHOULD BE? If you look at the definition of Perfect when used as a verb: to bring to completion; finish/ make flawless or faultless, then we know that each of our moments are technically by definition perfect. No need to compare them to something else that we think should be the ideal. Each wedding, each portrait session, each recorded moment is brought to completion and can be considered flawless or faultless if we do not focus on those aspects we wish to believe are flaws.
As photographers, we think we have to take perfect pictures on vacation, keep up with social media, show these picture perfect photos all the time, but when I am not at work, I am just a mom. I do not take our camera's on vacation. I use my cell phone at birthday parties. I do not post a blog post for a month because I get busy editing and working with clients, and going to my kids' soccer games. LIFE HAPPENS and LIFE is NOT PERFECT. Give yourself the same grace that you would bestow on someone else or that you wish someone would give to you. Life does not have to be overwhelming or meet someone else's standards. Sometimes it just needs to be full of flaws and grace to be a PERFECT moment.
7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.
This week, I am giving myself grace. Grace for not keeping up on my blog, for choosing time with my family and taking a short vacation, and grace for actually enjoying it. What are you giving yourself grace for this week?
~Krista

This show is different in that all the vendors (one of each type) actually does their full job, as if this were a real wedding situation. The "guests" arrive as if they are coming to an actual wedding. They get passed appetizers, time to meet vendors at small tables, and then a wedding "ceremony" styled fashion show.
Models are styled by professional bridal/tux shops and hair and makeup by a wedding beauty artist. Flowers and decor by a local shop. In the past, we have had real officiants but for the recent show our wonderful DJ was Master of Ceremony. He and our planner gave many tips on planning the perfect day and what goes on behind the scenes.
After the fashion show, I discussed what goes into the formal session and actually let them witness and ask questions while I photograph the models. Guests get to enjoy a full buffet dinner while eating/discussing with other couples and vendors. One lucky couple gets to practice their cake cutting skills for the big day.
The night is concluded with a "reception" of dancing, photobooth fun and prizes. I've always loved the concept of this show because it is so relaxed. The couples really enjoy it and unlike some of the other shows, there is never any overwhelmed "deer in the headlight" glazed expressions. They were engaged, having fun and getting ideas as well as falling in love with the vendors.
This year, I was particularly invested in this show as my daughter modeled as a flower girl. She had the best time. I hope you enjoy a look back at this year's show. These vendors are ALL AMAZING and you can't go wrong.
Our videographer had an emergency gig and was unable to attend so I did a little bit of video work. You can see the video here!

I have a few people in my life who can attest that I've long wanted to do a maternity session in a graveyard, and then came Laura. My beautiful friend who is so vivacious and would look stunning in red. The perfect contrast to a dark colorless winter day amidst old stones. The perfect graveyard where many of my own ancestors are buried, that has a huge historical impact on the area, and gave us appropriate permissions and rules for our session. With this crazy weather we have had, we even ended up with a perfect day. It all came together perfectly and the impact the photos have had on my art and passion for what I do are incredible.
"Birth and death are not different states, but they are different aspects of the same state." ~Mahatma Gandhi
My assistants were invaluable and while the photos may look serious, I promise we had a blast (and maybe one day, I will get a blooper reel put together but that's another post for another day.) This entire session could not have been pulled off without the full crew and I'm excited to say I am looking forward to future maternity sessions. I would love to design a creative and engaging session that is perfect for you.
I hope you love this as much as I do! Leave me some comments and tell us what you think of this out of the box maternity session! XOXO~Krista

Some of you will have attended or been in weddings (with a few having had a wedding before) and some of you may never have been to a wedding so are even more overwhelmed by this process! While some of you will choose to get a planner right off the bat to help you navigate this world of vendors, colors, overlays, chargers, flowers, and venues, many will choose to go it alone. (Either way, we are always here to help!) In fact, before your take off to your first/next bridal show read our blog post on How to Get the Most out of Bridal Shows here!
So let's get to the point, where do you go? Which shows are the best? They are all good in their own ways. It really depends on which services you need, what your budgets are and what your schedules allow. So let's run through them fairly quickly. For the sake of keeping the field narrow, we are going to confine it to the immediate Triad and only shows that we have shown/are showing at for this year. (I know that is not all encompassing but trust me when I say, you do not need to be even more overwhelmed).
We will start with the largest: The Carolina Wedding Show. Three locations, twice a year. Greensboro and Winston-Salem in January/Feb and August. This is a large show with hundreds of vendors at large locations such as the Fair grounds and the Coliseum. It's a maze of curtained 10 x 10 booths with a center stage. Multiple vendors of each category often with "purchase now sales pitches". This is a fast paced show with a large crowd of attendees that works well for the "seasoned" bride who knows what she is looking for and has direction for her wedding. The newer brides can often get inspiration but it can be very overwhelming with all the options and people. If you did not attend this show already, catch the next one in August (but if you haven't been to a show, maybe hit a few smaller ones first!) Some of you reading this probably met us at the Greensboro Coliseum Show on February 2nd.
Eat, Drink and Be Married Bridal Show at Castle McCulloch. This show is at a larger venue every other month alternating between Tuesday nights and Sundays so it works well with a lot of schedules and because it happens consistently is easy to find time to attend. This show is medium in size. Attendees can be the same quantity as The Carolina Wedding Show but with far less vendors and a spread out open layout. Not quite as overwhelming but still multiple vendors of each category for choice (though 2-4 of each vs 10-15 of each at CWS). This is a good all around show. Still enough for choice but not too large for the newly engaged and did I mention the food? AMAZING and Plentiful food and fun prizes with more chance to win! The next show is March 17th. What better way to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day than good food, planning your wedding and an early start to the drinks at the Castle Bar?
Date The Wedding. This is a small intimate show in a completely different format from any other show in the area. It has one of each vendor actually doing their work to put on a wedding. Rather than an actual wedding, it uses models for a ceremony style fashion show. A full sit down meal reception that includes cake, dancing, bouquet toss and ends the night with prizes. This show is loved by both seasoned show goers and new brides because the format is informative, not overwhelming and relaxed. Several grooms say this is their favorite show because it includes them and they get a "date" with their bride all while planning their upcoming event! This is one of our favorites because it is at smaller venues with limited tickets so it is very intimate and we get to know the couples and they get to know us. Next event is March 3rd from 5-8pm. Definitely check out this show!
Randleman Wedding Expo: Sponsored by the Randleman Chamber of Commerce. This is a county wide show featuring many of the area/surrounding area vendors. It is about the size of a venue show but not tied to a specific venue or vendor. Wonderful vendors, good food, intimate atmosphere. This year it will be held at the local high school to avoid any weather issues as many of the venues in that area are outdoor venues. We will not actually be there but will be represented at the booth of Amanda K Events. Amanda is an amazing vibrant personality that plans/coordinates weddings. She is a wealth of knowledge in the industry. Go see Amanda at the Randleman Show on March 10th!
Venue/Vendor Open Houses and Bridal Events. Many of the venues now host their own open houses and bridal events, inviting some of their favorite vendors to set up and meet brides and grooms. These are perfect for the couples interested in or already signed up at those venues. If the larger shows seem overwhelming these smaller shows are probably perfect for you. A few coming up that we are attending are: The Longhouse Open House and Art Show on March 16th, The Adaumont Farm Bridal Show on March 3rd (day time and we will be at Date The Wedding that evening), Rosa Mae's Open House on March 21st.
Keep an eye on our Instagram for more places we will be attending through the year, as well as, your favorite venues/vendors to see if/when they will be hosting open houses/shows. No matter what show you choose, stay calm, breathe, relax and enjoy the process. Don't forget to visit our previous blog post on How to Get the Most out of a Bridal Show! Have fun and Happy Planning!

If you are looking for the perfect idea on what to do with your loved ones, visit my friend Amanda's blog post! She gives some great advice on how to show your love and indulge yourself as well with innovative date nights!
Let's get back to the day of indulgence though! What do you think of when you think of Valentine's Day? Diamond rings, romantic proposals, heart shaped boxes of chocolates? Maybe you are more of a card and flowers type of person. Candlelight dinner with wine? What speaks to you when you think romance? Do you want time in a simple setting or fancy jewelry and reservations? A couples massage perhaps? I think anything you choose, speaks to you and what you like to indulge in!
This is a good way to think about your wedding too! Maybe your ideas on what a romantic day means to you will inspire you for your upcoming engagement/proposal/wedding day planning!
My friend Amanda with Amanda K Events (previously mentioned and blog post linked!) and I got together with help from a few bakers and created a perfect setting that would work well for your gal pals or your loved ones. Even kids would enjoy our love "tea" party! Take this theme and go wild for birthday party, baby showers, bridal showers, or just an afternoon stress reliever to celebrate life!
We enjoyed putting this together to inspire you on this Valentine's Day! Share with us your own romantic ideas or "tea" party photos! We would love to see where your romantic imagination takes you!

Other business owners who will DROP what they are doing to SAVE A wedding for one of MY CLIENTS that they have no loyalty or connection to simply because I ask it of them to make a couple have a great day. Do I have to be the hero, No. I could leave it to someone else or let the cards fall as they may….but I KNOW I have this AMAZING network of people who WANT me to SUCCEED and WANT to make Happy Wedding days for others. This is what we all do, and we love it.
I know I can often fix terrible situations by a simple phone call to one of these amazing people. A groom leaves his tux pants in another state? No problem, my sweet tux shop owner will run them to the venue just because I asked her to and she wants this couple to have a perfect day. A company messed up an invoice date and forgets a cake? My friend (who was not the caterer for this wedding) will drop what she is doing to go to the store and pick up a cake and cupcakes etc for 120 people so my bride doesn't have to cry on her wedding day….ALL BECAUSE I ASKED it of them and they are dedicated to this industry.
(Pictures show are not from the actual events that needed help, just pictures I happen to have of my fellow vendors randomly)
Photographer doesn’t show up and they call me? I will rush right over and help them too. My second comes down with the FLU, my photographer friends jump in for me too. BECAUSE WE ARE AN AMAZING INDUSTRY who WANT EACH OTHER TO SUCCEED AND GROW. I can not tell you how blessed I am with friendships in this industry. How much these other business owners mean to me and have grown with me. Friendships that have developed far beyond a wedding day but are now some of my closest friends both inside and outside of work. People I can talk to, hang out with, ask life advice in raising my children as an entrepreneur.
Get to know your industry. SUPPORT your other vendors. CREATE your network. It will be one of the most valuable things you can do for your business and yourself and other people. Community over Competition people…because it may take a village to raise a child as the saying goes, but it also takes a community to make a business successful! I will fight for these businesses to be successful, just as they fight for me and mine. Thank you to the many amazing businesses/owners/employees who have become my friends, believe in me and helped me to make some amazing situations into wedded bliss for couples. Thank you to all our clients who have put their faith and trust in us knowing that we will do whatever we can to make your day perfect. This is why we network, this is why we refer the ones we do, because we know they believe in the best for the client, the same as we do!
I wish I had photos of ALL the amazing vendors but that would be a huge post and I do not always get to capture photos of people behind the scenes! If I left you out, you still mean the world to me, these images were handy! LOL

1) Get plenty of sleep the night before. I think that goes without saying but its easier to be calm and rested before your portrait day than it is the wedding day.
2)Drink plenty of water for the few days prior and on the day of your session.
3) Have your bag packed with all of your essentials and double check it!
4) Arrive to your hair/makeup appointment on time. If you are doing your hair and makeup yourself, allow for extra time just in case there are distractions etc. You don’t want to run late and be stressed out! Even if you are an exceptional makeup artist, I do recommend having your make -up and hair done. It’s a great way to stay relaxed and stress free and feel pampered during this process. (Even I don’t take my own family portraits but hire other photographers!)
5) Allow for time to get dressed on location. Sometimes getting into dresses take longer than you expect and you can get frustrated and stressed out especially if your photographer or venue have you on a strict time slot (we try never to book a bridal session too close to another commitment so that we never have to rush but some of the venues do have specific time slots that we have to adhere to!)
6) Bring an assistant or ask your photographer if they will be able to help you. This is a per photographer basis. Some photographers prefer to be alone with the bride so as the bride is not distracted and has their full attention on the session. I actually like having a Maid of Honor, mother etc. tag along as they are always super helpful with carrying trains or umbrellas if it is (god forbid) rainy and keep the bride relaxed. It helps me get to know the bride more and more people that are key players in the wedding get to know me. Makes wedding days much more fun! If you do bring an assistant please make sure they know not to use their phone/cameras during this time.
7) Have fun and enjoy the process. Do not be shy or self-conscious…because it really is all about you on this day. All of the attention is yours so yes, everyone is looking at you and envying your beautiful bridal glow!
So why are we so busy at this time of year? Well, to start with, let’s look at some statistics (weddingwire.com):
Having analyzed the data, we can see how 40% of couples who just got engaged hit the wedding shows hard at this time of year and start selecting/booking their vendors. We are all a little busy right now meeting new brides and grooms (and I love every minute of it!).
One of our favorite things are bridal shows. We get to meet people face to face for the first time. They can be VERY overwhelming for a new bride and groom though. So many people, vendors, etc in one place. It starts to feel like a daunting task to plan your wedding. So here are a few pointers to help you navigate your way through wedding shows.
I hope this information is helpful to you. RELAX, have fun, enjoy each other and this phase of your life. We have a wonderful wedding industry in this area with some amazing vendors. Photographers, venues, planners, caterers, florists…the list goes on and on. There are plenty to choose from and you should have no trouble finding the vendor that is perfect for you and your beautiful day. Congratulations and we hope to meet you soon!!

This year my goal is share the stories of women in our community who have experienced PPD (PostPartum Depression) in its many forms to help normalize the conversation so that women can seek help. Why do this on a photography blog dedicated predominantly to the wedding industry? 1) Because I can. 2) Because brides will often be faced with this issue within a year or two of marriage. If my followers or brides who may visit my page REMEMBER this project or ONE of these blog posts, then maybe they will seek the help they need when it is time.
Our stories are not the same. The symptoms are not always the same. Not everyone experiences the thoughts of harming their child or suicide but some do. Anger and Rage are a very common symptom and unfortunately it is often taken out on those closest to us including our husbands and partners. I hope you journey with me this year meeting the mothers of our community. Share their stories, talk to your friends who have just had a baby. Ask them if they are okay. If you need help, please feel free to contact me through this website. I will be happy to talk to you online or if you are local, invite you for coffee/tea and help find resources for you. I am hoping to share an entire post of resources as well.
Please help me support these mothers and future mothers who need our help in normalizing PPD and not being afraid to find the help they need.
To start off our series, I want to introduce you to Su. Su is a strong woman I met at my children's pre-school three years ago. She is vivacious and outgoing. I had the pleasure of sitting down with her recently and we shared our stories. I am going to let her tell you her story in her own words as I share pictures of her and her beautiful daughter Lennox from a pretty winter day in January. Leave a comment and show Su some love for being a strong and amazing mom in our community! If you would like to share your story, please contact me. ~Krista
"My first time experiencing PPD was my second child. My first daughter. There was a horrible thunderstorm outside. I was home alone with my two children. My son, who was three and a half at the time, and my daughter who was four months. The lights had gone out due to the storm and my son just couldn’t understand why were in the dark. So he starts to ask twenty questions per minute. I was frantically trying to find matches or a flashlight or something that would help me through the obstacle of toys that were on the floor. By this time, we’re five minutes into the blackout and my daughter starts hollering, which in-turn makes my son start crying. And I start yelling. I still can’t find light. And they wouldn’t stop. Now I feel anger. I just want the noise to stop. And in a split second, I’m standing at the top of my stairs thinking, “If I throw her down the stairs, she’ll stop screaming”. The feeling was strong. I just wanted to be able to think in silence. At that moment I grabbed my son by the arm and yanked him into the bathroom right behind us, where I crouched down in the tub with them and cried until the lights came on one hour later. The next morning, I showed up at my Doctor’s office without an appointment begging for help. I was prescribed something for anxiety.
Fast forward Ten years later, and my surprise “menopause” unplanned miracle arrives in the form of a beautiful baby girl. She filled a void that I was unaware existed in my life. My two other children were old enough to help. This was going to be a breeze. But I was now almost Forty years old, starting over with a baby. My life consisted of nursing a newborn, changing diapers, catching up on last season of “This is Us” at 3 A.M. On top of my older children’s busy extracurricular schedules. I was managing two hour stretches of sleep at a time. I went back to work at the Preschool ONE month after I had her. The preschool was my happy place, I would have help with the baby because she would be in the nursery and I felt a sense of fulfillment that I didn’t feel at home. So, utterly exhausted, I returned to work ONE MONTH postpartum. I even continued babysitting children that I had previously babysat for years after work because I didn’t want to let their mother down. All while extraordinarily sleep-deprived.
One morning, I’m driving the three children to preschool. The two I babysat and my own. There were three car seats in my back seat. I didn’t see the red light that I ran and was sideswiped by a huge pick-up truck on my driver’s side door. Airbags deployed. My car smoked. And could you believe not one child cried? By the grace of God, the only one hurt was me and it was due to the airbag. But what hurt the most was having to call these children’s mom and tell her that I had just had an accident.
Once home, I cried for days. All I could think about was that I almost killed someone else’s kids. I was without a car, I was tired and I had nightmares about this episode turning out so differently. I became severely depressed and lost my will to live. Thank Goodness my baby was still a newborn and slept most of the day because that’s all I did. A week later, I went to my doctor and told her what I was feeling. She listened and cried with me. She prescribed an anti-depressant that helped take away the darkness (along with prayer) within a week.
I’m thankful for a doctor who knew how to listen. I’m grateful for a God who shown me signs when I should step back and be still. And I’m blessed to have three beautiful children who show me love when I feel unworthy."
Thank you Su for sharing your story. You are such an amazing person and I'm so glad you have had a hand with my young children. I hope your story speaks to someone and they find hope in your words.

The property has seen many weddings over the years but the original owners of the estate found it was time to retire and move on. Tyler and Mary, having another venue in Walnut Cove, stepped in and I'm sure the rest is soon to be history. We were honored to take the first photos at Chateau Vie at the Vendor open house. A quick styled shoot was organized by the industrious Katy at Songbirds Consignment and Bridal. We really are blessed to work with such an amazing network of vendors all over the triad that these things can come together quickly. With two amazing models (Lauren and Cameron) this turned out to be a wonderful experience and I'm sure brides will find the same on their big day with beautiful photo opportunities and owners who are focused on the details. We can't wait to see some weddings out here!
We hope you enjoy this first look at Chateau Vie. We envision some beautiful weddings here. If you decide to make this THE PLACE for your special day keep us in mind to capture it for you!

The moments of our lives are marked by the moments in yours. Profound right? Think about it though. We capture your memories, your moments, your stories and that IS our story. We are the story tellers and our lives revolve around a schedule of other people's moments and stories. Neat right? Is that all of our story though? No. Of course not. Just like your wedding day isn't all of yours. There is LIFE beyond what your career is, what your wedding day is, etc. So it is true for us as well. We are not just North Carolina based wedding photographers.

You want to know that on your wedding day, you are getting the most professional service but also be comfortable with the people who are there. If you have met us, then you probably already know a few things about us. We are quirky (okay, so Stephen is a nerd, I'm normal...I swear). We are passionate about what we do. He tells bad jokes and I roll my eyes at him...a lot. We are happy.

Some of you may have delved deeper into our lives during conversations and know that we have been together for going on 14 years, married for almost 12 years (this October). We run a business together (at least I let him think he helps...HA HA!), we work together, and we are raising two crazy kids and all that entails. We are constantly building something (he is anyway), renovating something, or getting into a new project around our old house. We are pretty much ALWAYS together. We are more than business partners, parents and spouses. We are best friends who occasionally drive each other crazy.

Stephen hails from the Crystal Coast region of NC from a military family and served the Marine Corp himself right out of high school. I am a farm girl from the triad area and try to visit the family farm near Pilot Mountain as often as I can. We both love to garden in the summer and I enjoy cooking, baking and canning when I have the time.
McIntee Images Photography
We balance our time between work, home, family, ballet, soccer, gymnastics, church, school (kids) and the gym. Stephen loves to run charity 5k's ( I love to watch him do it!) and go to Comicons. I commit my time to a lot of charity causes and working with our community partners like Northwood Animal Hospital to raise money for pets in need. I am passionate about supporting women through Infertility, Miscarriage and PPD because we have been through all of that ourselves. So you will see occasional posts about that. My hope is that by normalizing the conversation, people will feel secure in seeking out help. I have two large Passion Projects in 2018 that follow the lines of these topics. I hope you will join me in supporting them.

When we do take a break from all the craziness our go to relaxation is a new Star Wars or Super Hero movie with our friends or sitting around a fire with S'mores and wine.
I hope you have enjoyed getting to know us just a little bit more. We have been the bride and groom, the young couple and all too soon we will be the parents of the bride or groom. (They are young now but already time is flying by so I for see this path coming all too quickly). Together we have photographed 150 weddings in the past 6 years. We are so excited to get to know each of you more and share your stories.

]]>Unfortunately, another thing that goes out the window when I get busy is my personal and creative photography. The shoots I do just for me because I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY. I LOVE being an artist and the camera is my tool. I think being creative is VITAL to staying relative. I always want to be the best I can be for my clients and continue my passion of photography.
In addition to my personal creative shoots, my personal life photography goes out the window. You know the saying, "the mechanics car is always the roughest to run" or "the electricians house has the worst wiring?" It's so true about the photographer's kids. The last thing you want to do is drag the camera equipment around with you when you go to the zoo or the park or whatever with the kids after shooting two weddings that weekend...so like every parent in America I rely on my cell phone...if that. My kids are stunning. I need to spend more time with them and my camera.
This year, I am vowing to find that creative spirit I have let slide the past two years. To work with people on projects that give me that creative outlet to explore, develop, and learn. To take the time to BE CREATIVE and work on my ART not just Work. I LOVE weddings and capturing Love. I LOVE working with my clients but I want to be MORE for myself and for them.
So I am excited on some pending projects I have for this year and will be sharing them with you through my blog, because writing my journey and sharing the process and the steps is also a way of expressing myself. I hope this year to inspire and create in addition to working with you. So I hope I can keep to my New Year's Resolution and blogging through the year. I am looking forward to you joining me!
I was just looking at my calendar the other day and I only have 3 weekends between now and 2018 that do not have a wedding or event scheduled. THREE!! Of course, me being the lover of all things Christmas, I was so excited to book my tickets for the Polar Express last night. Even more exciting was my night time sighting of the head elf himself at Castle McCulloch on Wednesday...SANTA!!! I KNOW HIM!!!
Santa and I are so pleased to be bringing a full Santa EXPERIENCE to Castle McCulloch this year. We are not just doing Santa photos, we are creating an experience, family tradition and ART To remember it by. Over the next few months, we will be releasing our new Art, meeting with families, and filling out our calendars. It is NEVER too early to schedule your experience. This year we will have 1 hour sessions on November 15th and 16th from 4 to 7pm. That is 8 spots total, 2 of which are already booked. SIX more families can enjoy the Magic and Art of Santa with Magnolia Ridge at Castle McCulloch this year.
We look forward to talking with you and showing you our new traditions (Santa's Magical Gift created by Larry Hersberger), set and experience.
One of the subjects that is highly debated is the use of the American Flag. While it is deemed patriotic to use the flag in photos, the WAY it is used can be very disrespectful and thus the arguments begin. It's Art, it's pride, etc. So let's just break it down before everyone runs out to post their patriotic photos tomorrow. We had a little photo-session ourselves and photographed some wrong and right ways to use the flag. A huge thank you to one of our adorable couples Lauren and Chris for volunteering for this session at the Carolina Field of Honor on a cloudy/stormy evening!
The American Flag has been in use since the 1800's when legend has it George Washington, George Ross, and other members of the committee commissioned Betsy Ross to sew a new flag design. The American Flag with stars on a blue field was adopted and flown June 14th, 1977. The current flag with the 50 stars has been flown since 1960.
So while we like to argue whether wearing the flag, laying on the flag etc is okay for the sake of art, there is actually a federal flag code that spells it all out for us. Public law 94–344.
The flag should be displayed from sunrise to sunset unless illuminated from darkness. There are proper ways to display in parades, with other flags, suspended, from a building and even on staff's with other flags. Take a few moments to look these up.
When photographing the flag, There are definite rules as to not insult our nations colors.
* never photograph the flag upside down
* never use as drapery for furniture (or even over a motorcycle)
* never use printed or disposable items such as napkins with the flag on them (so our 4th of July parties are all kinds of breaking this code!)
* should not be used in advertisements
*Never photograph a flag wrapped or draped/ technically any clothing displaying the flag is inappropriate use (We used a scarf printed as a flag..which technically would be inappropriate any way you look at it, but with so many clothing companies printing the flag on items, people have become desensitized to the flag being used in this way.)
* should not be photographed as a costume or athletic uniform (only official personnel or patriotic organizations should have patches)
* never photograph the flag with any mark, number or drawing of any kind on it or attached to it
* The flag should never be photographed being used for holding or being covered by anything (Rings, newborn swaddles etc)
* never photograph the flag on the ground or any part touching the ground (Laying on the flag)
* never photograph a torn or tattered or dirty flag
While these rules may seem silly to some, there is a level of pride in our flag and our nation we should uphold. We have service men who join, fight and die for this country and this flag is the symbol of their bravery, our continued freedom. The federal code does not have any punishments for breaking the rules, so no, you will not go to jail for wrapping up in a flag in a photograph but if you love the flag enough to use it in photos, do you really want to disrespect it in doing so?
The following photos are acceptable ways to use the flag in a session. Honoring our nation or someone's patriotism is a beautiful and admirable thing. Let's just be careful how we use the flag in sessions for our servicemen, patriotic holidays etc. Happy Independence Day from all of us here at Magnolia Ridge Photography!

How can you not like any wedding involving mason jars? No really. I love mason jars before it was cool (I actually can in them...gasp!) and have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to the useful little glass containers of country glory! A little casual, a little traditional, a lot country, and a WHOLE lot of fun! Take a walk (because these boots were made for walking!) through the wedding of Loralynn and Matt!

Instead, I play with dreamy venues, color combo's, etc. by styling shoots. This particular shoot, I was not the lead on, but hey, any excuse to take pretty pictures of beautiful people at stunning locations. After all, I'm a wedding photographer, that is what I do for a living!
This past week on a very warm (think mid summer vs late spring) day, we headed up to the recently opened . A beautiful private setting with water, pier, and shelter this location can accommodate a large or small wedding from spring to fall, rain or shine.
I'm excited to get back to this venue for an actual wedding, but until then, enjoy these photos and imagine your wedding here, decorated with lots of flowers, at sunset, maybe with fall leaves in the background, the fire-pit going, pumpkins ...then call for a date to book them and me because that will be one fabulous wedding!!

I spent some time with Ellie during the winter for her bridal session. She was a glowing bride. She was ready to marry her love and it showed in everything she said. This was a sweet love story coming together before my camera, and the big day had not even arrived yet!
Sometimes you meet couples who are so similar there is no diversity, but then sometimes you meet a couple like Ellie and Greg. Yin and Yang. You know they are going to make it because he will be her calm in the storm. She will be his light in the dark. They will go through the years laughing and enjoying life together.
The uses of vibrant orange and blue (carried through from their engagement session!) made for a bright and happy wedding that really fit the couple! (and made for great photos!) Congratulations again to Ellie and Greg! Thank you for letting us be a part of your story!

]]>"The Red Nose Day Fund provides grants annually to charities who demonstrate they are doing work in the US and overseas to help end child poverty." You can find out more information about the campaign on the website.
It was a distinct pleasure to photograph the wedding of a Walgreen's Pharmacist who had the heart to incorporate the company charity into her big day! Red Noses at a Wedding! This playful couple was so much fun through the whole day but it really made my heart happy to see how willing and eager they were to create awareness and support this charity! Stay tuned for more photos from their entire wedding, but until then, let's get ready to celebrate Red Nose day on May 25th, 2017 with a glimpse at all the Red Nose Fun at their wedding. Don't forget to go to Walgreen's and pick up your Red Noses and show them off at work, play, and social media on the 25th!!!
A slightly nerdy couple after our own hearts, they had just enough quirkiness to their elegant traditional wedding to really bring out their personality and keep it fresh and modern! Congratulations Kylie and Jim and thank you for letting us be a part of your beautiful love story!

Without further ado:
Really, we would not be where we are without them. I learned how to run a company at their knee. My dad is an engineer that ran his own amazing company for 27 years with my mother at his side doing all the accounting/office management etc. with her finance degree. I (Krista) was raised, literally, in the small business world, working in the office since I was about 12. So I can honestly contribute my passion for my business and a lot of aid to my parents. It was nice to have a relaxing vacation with them spending part of the week with us.
We rented a house in the Lake Lure area of NC. A beautiful cabin overlooking the lake. We spent a lot of mornings on the deck drinking coffee and a lot of evenings on that same deck drinking wine! We went to see the Biltmore house in Asheville, did some shopping, but mostly just relaxed on the lake and played with the kids.
The kicker is: We didn't take our cameras! WHAT? We haul those things around night and day so when we vacate, we step away from them. We rely on one of our old dslr's that's light weight with just a basic lens and our phones. Yep. We are just like every other tourist when we vacate. Snapshots are the order of the day. So here is a peak at the few pictures we actually did take. (seriously, we try to leave the cameras and phones alone so we just spend time together).
Nanna and Poppy taking the kids for a paddle boat ride back to the cabin from the "beach area".
The kids at Biltmore! Those crazy skies ended up dumping on us about an hour later!!
My adorable parents at Biltmore!
This amazing little church we found on the way to Asheville. I need a bride to put on those steps and bridge!!
Can not believe I am posting pictures of me in a bathing suit but this is pretty much the only thing I did....throw my children in the air...I should have amazing biceps now. "Mommy throw me!"
Katie and her poppy!
Stephen (my pirate) whisking away our children to explore the lake. (I sat on the dock and fed the fish who got a little frisky with my toenail polish).
We found this great little waterfall the evening before we left. I actually WISH we had had our equipment with us as it was almost dark and was such a stunning place.
Katie was a little unsure of the fast moving river
An inside pic of the cabin we stayed at (and fell in love with).

Their wedding day dawned beautiful and the organized chaos began! The colors were bright, the sun was shining, and this wedding was perfect on a hill top in Eden.

Amanda and Richard planned a perfect afternoon intimate family oriented wedding at the lovely 105 Worth Street in Asheboro. They said I do surrounded by their children and close friends and family. With the help of Serenity Weddings, Amanda coordinated an amazing team of vendors to oversee her day. She didn't miss a detail and included intimate moments such as presenting family and bridesmaids with custom necklaces through her Origami Owl services. Every detail had her intimate touch and you could feel the love fill the venue till the old brick walls bulged (only figuratively...do not worry it is still in tact for all of you future brides!)
How can I not add a wedding that has S'mores as their favors to my favorites list (not that I actually keep one)? (also, the groom's favorite dessert, but I will choose to believe that it was because they know I'm a fan as well...Richard and I are kindred S'mores spirits!)
Take a stroll through this afternoon affair and delight in love and family.

If ever there were a story of a dashing knight and a fair maiden, it would be Zac and Koral. You can not be around these two without feeling their romantic hearts and their deep love for each other mixed in with an overlay of charm and fun, this was definately a fairytale wedding. From the sword play, to the romance novel kisses, love filled the old Castle. Photographing them was a breeze as their body language was automatic and their touch was posed enough.
We definitely feel this couple will be one for the story books and we are as always honored to have captured a part of their fairytale. Congratulations Zac and Koral and we hope to watch your adventures in life continue!

Chandreika, her best friend and event coordinator Kenyatta Johnson, and I sat down to discuss her engagement shoot, we worked on the story aspect in great detail. We wanted to tell the story of their love in a date type manner. So we used the things in their life that they enjoyed to tell a romantic tale of basketball games and romantic dinners. A relaxed couple who enjoys just hanging out.
Kenyatta set up a beautiful romantic picnic in the park while we were on the basketball court shooting. The entire picnic part was a complete surprise to Larry so it was really fun stepping back from posed photos during an engagement shoot to more of a candid wedding style shoot for a bit.
Not only do they have pictures of their engagement that tell the world a little about them but they now have this moment...this event...this romantic date and time to remember as part of their story (and it is all captured!)
This was a wonderful session and I thoroughly enjoyed working with all of them! Congratulations Chandreika and Larry!! (I'm still sad that I'm already booked and will not be able to photograph the amazing wedding in Jamaica!!...literally crying over here lol)

They did not dissappoint with geek details either! A sorting hat with wands to find your seating arrangement, fun centerpieces and bold colors, and above all, a really fun wedding party that was willing and excited to get into various themed poses. (Always one of our favorite parts of course!)
On the day of the wedding, we had some amazing storms with sporadic brilliant sun. This was not cause for wedding panic though, because this gave them not one but TWO rainbows with one being a double! Now how many weddings can say that they were triple blessed with rainbows on their wedding day? This is a sign of long lasting forever love if I ever saw one.
Without further ado, the wedding of Tiffany and Blake! Thank you for choosing us to not only tell your story, but be a part of your beautiful day!
I (Krista) was the fortunate one to get to go on the boat with Robyn for her grand entrance down the pier. I have to say, that may have been the most pleasurable hour at a wedding...EVER. No offense to other brides who we have had a great time with, but the salt and sea spray in my face, dolphins jumping behind the boat, cruising the coast line with just the bride and her dad...you really can't get any better than that! It was such a joy watching her relax and in turn get excited and nervous. A gamut of emotions in that short period of time.
Thank you Chris and Robyn for allowing us to be a part of your amazing story. We loved every moment with you and hope to continue to watch your story grow!

I love coordinating styled shoots but I also love being invited to participate at one by another vendor who has had a vision. In the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to do both. First up, the beautiful styled shoot coordinated by Sharon of The Lily Pad. She had the amazing vision to bring together three planners for three ceremony sites on the property, three sets of models and three photographers.
WAIT...WHAT?? That's right. I got a couple of beautiful people to work with, keys to a golf cart and the run of the property with all kinds of set ups, flowers, props etc. A morning of heaven for a photographer basically!!
I can not thank all of the vendors enough for their creativity and work together and especially Sharon for putting this all together. The Lily Pad is a stunning venue and I can't wait to shoot another wedding out there! Until then, enjoy these photos from our fun styled shoot and check out these vendors that helped make it happen!
Venue: The Lily Pad
In an industry when it is not a-typical for weddings to start late, it is rare for one to go early, but it was pulled off beautifully. The ceremony was carried off with an amazing sky overhead and dark rumbling thunder across the field. We managed to grab some of the formal photos before the rain started to fall. The night went on with dancing and laughs, a few quick photos outside between rain showers. This couple made the most out of EVERYTHING including when a circuit was tripped and the ballroom lights/music were killed toward the end of the night.
One of their friends launched into soaring opera and serenaded the couple by the light of our equipment and the wedding continued with hugs and beautiful voices and sing a longs that really made the ending all the more perfect.
The vendor list was extensive but perfect for this wedding and the lighting provided by Ray Mietus with Steel Impressions was unbelievable. One of the prettiest ballrooms I've seen when it was all said and done. Make sure you scroll to the end to check out some dance shots with the lighting transformation!

We traveled to Benson, NC about 45 minutes towards the coast from Raleigh. A very small town with beautiful historical homes where we found this renovated victorian that was an adorable and elegant wedding venue. It was a gem of a venue with it's fanciful decor and wrap around porch. The traditional ballroom worked well for receptions, and the outdoor theater style ceremony was perfect.
A very traditional and elegant wedding surrounded by family and friends that suited Ashley and Guy very well. You can tell from spending the evening with them that they are loyal to their circle and will be there through thick and thin for them as well as each other. I'm looking forward to seeing this couple grow.
Congratulations Ashley and Guy! Thank you for choosing us to tell your story!

We love any couple who makes photography a priority of their day, but add in the details that really showcase their personality and you have a recipe for a perfect wedding on our books!
There really is a lot to be said for a small intimate wedding. More time to get the things you want, spend with those you love, and less stress! Elkin Creek did a great job on their "little" big day!

I had a second shooter of Chad Perry for this wedding as our Stephen was unavailable, but we had an amazing time. Beautiful bride, beautiful family, small intimate wedding with amazing vendors. What more could you ask for? Congratulations Kathryn and Stephen. Thank you for choosing us to be a part of your Fairy Tale and thank you for your service to our country!

This is a beautiful historic mansion in Reidsville with awesome grounds. This was a fantastic wedding as well. I will tell you the story of working with Dana and Elliott when we post their full wedding, but until then, enjoy these photos that highlight their beautiful day (a few storm clouds, and a bit of rain didn't slow this wedding down!)
I connected with Walt through his love for his family farm which has been in his family for five generations! I, too, come from a long standing farming family! Really, it was just like hanging out with close friends! They were relaxed (okay Walt was a little camera shy but I did manage some smiles from him!)and easy. Their love for each other and their dogs shined through.
We played around with the puppy (OMG PUPPY BREATH!! Love it!), found the greenest area right inside the woods you have ever seen with this amazing light, and of course posed on the tractor. What self respecting farmer doesn't show off their tractor!
I hope you enjoy Sarah and Walt's engagement session and come back in a few months for their wedding!
Having said that, back to Cydney and J! You have seen a glimpse of their beautiful wedding at Tanglewood, now check out their full event! From the amazing ceremony of tying the dogwood trees together to catching a tree on fire (all of which was caught on camera!). Thier beautiful send off was supposed to be the floating lanterns. I was very excited about this and had visions of beautiful spots of light floating over the pond...something straight from the movie Rapunzel. The wind had other ideas and after one harrowing moment of a lantern burning in a treetop, the lanterns were abandoned and we just danced the night away.
Other than the lack of lanterns, it was a perfect wedding (and really the expressions and pictures from those few moments are priceless...LOL). I hope you enjoy seeing their wedding through our eyes. Congratulations again Cydney and J.

Marine, Mom, and Bride. Jennifer rocked her wedding day. She was strong and sweet and beautiful and was marrying Scott, who obviously adores her. Their children blended to one big happy family. While the guest list weighed a little heavier on Scott's side, Jennifer's made up for their numbers with a lot of laughter and fun!
This was a fun wedding from start to finish. What stood out to me though, was their love and committment to family. Not just to their joined parenting to their children but to acknowledging their family as a whole. Their "village" if you will, was their to celebrate with them, and in turn they celebrated their village. With a special birthday cake for a brother, a special dance with her mother...the whole day was a celebration of love and family which touched our hearts.
Help us say CONGRATULATIONS TO JENNIFER AND SCOTT! We thank you for your service and wish you Happily Ever After! Thank you for choosing us to tell your Wedding Story.

A simple but elegant affair with their 20 guests (mostly family) staying in the cabins at Elkin Creek Vineyard and neighboring rental place Frog Holler Cabins across the river. Their wedding was a weekend affair with an all day wine tour followed by rehearsal, culminating in a beautifully decorated, fun filled affair on Saturday.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time with this couple! Enjoy a sneak peak at their wedding! Stay tuned for more photos when their gallery is finished!

Steampunk is a modern genre taking inspiration from great authors such as Wells, Shelly and Verne. Originating in the late 1970's through literature, it has gained a renewed popularity in the past decade. Here are a few great quotes that describe Steampunk better than I can.
"Steampunk is an eclectic world of cogs and rivets. It is airships, goggles and steam. It is ROMANCE. It is traveling on clouds and diving beneath rugged waves. It is adventure." ~Aether Emporium
"Steampunk is...a joyous fantasy of the past, allowing us to revel in a nostalgia for what never was. It is a literary playground for adventure, spectacle, drama, escapism, and exploration. But most of all, it is FUN!
We first met Kelley at a bridal show and after speaking with her about their steampunk wedding, I will admit, I was willing to beg to photograph this wedding. Fortunately, it didn't come to that. After a few more bridal show sitings, they picked thier venue and booked us. (I was THRILLED!). Kelley is such a joy to be around. She is adventurous and sassy and Justin complements her so well. With his humor and smile, the two light up a room when together.
Take a trip with me, through Kelley and Justin's classic steampunk wedding.

Congratulations Ryan and Britney! Full blog post coming in a few weeks!
Not only is the area a community center, historical museum, home to a private college, and a favorite destination by many surrounding residents, it is also a favorite place for couples to marry and be photographed. Old Salem offers many beautiful scenes with a landmark covered bridge,
tree-lined pathways, colorful, rustic, and historic buildings, barns, carriage sheds, cobblestone streets and gardens. The possibilities are endless as you can walk and travel to so many areas. The original tract of land purchased was over 98,000 acres so there are pieces of history all over the area, not just in a small concentrated museum area, which makes this a very unique and breathtakingly beautiful location for photographers and couples.
This was a particularly great place to take Wes and Jennifer, who have a love of history and the outdoors. Wes, particularly, is very knowledgeable as he participates in historical War Re-enactments. Touring the town and discussing buildings, community, areas etc made for a fascinating morning. When one of us really connects to something the couple enjoys, it creates a whole new dynamic to the session. I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Old Salem and I was even excited that we found some purple flowers and a purple tree to fufill Jennifer's LOVE of purple!
We are so excited to photograph their wedding this fall and continue to tell their story!
with a live band keeping everyone on the dance floor.
It was the wedding that never stopped and we had a blast being a part of the day. This was one wedding where we were not just the recorders of love, but we were part of their story and it was definitely an honor.
Thank you for not only choosing us, but welcoming us into your circle and even wishing me a Happy Birthday in the middle of your wedding! We wish you two the happiest of marriages and look forward to watching your love continue to grow.
Despite the up and down weather, this elegant wedding took the links by storm from a tear filled First Look on the links to a night of dancing with a live band that rocked the house.
Simple white and purple flowers on a snowy white background, southern charm with tea cups and natural elements made for a simple and elegant backdrop for this sweet couple.
Justin absolutely adores Jena and you can see it with every look. Being around them, you can feel their affection and sweetness toward each other but their sense of fun permeates through it all. A sweet but fun wedding that suited this adorable couple to the TEE!
Enjoy these teasers and Congratulations to Justin and Jena! Thank you for choosing us to tell your story!
They were so happy that I do not hesitate to use the word GIDDY! There was an air about the wedding of light, fun and just this joyful innocent type happiness.
The feelings and emotional environment were really amazing to be a part of. This South Carolina group really knew how to have a good time and the dance floor stayed hopping!
Congratulations Kathryn and Steven on your beautiful romantic wedding. We wish you a lifetime of happiness and love and thank you for choosing us to be a part of your story!

No special themes (and you know we love the themed weddings!) but what spoke to me was the elegant simplicity of a spring day in a garden. The ceremony of tying the dogwood trees together to watch them grow into one was beautiful and a new one for us.
Every small detail of this wedding told the story of this couple. The emotional vows where I don't think there was a dry eye in the entire area...
the nature inspired decor...
and the absolute love of this couple that permeated everything around them. The wedding was perfect...well there may have been that once little mishap of fire...but that's a story for another day....
Congratulations to Cydney and J! Thank you for letting us be a party of your fairytale! It was definitely an honor!

Festivals where people meet and let loose are a nice change of pace for us. For the past several years we have photographed at each Castle McCulloch festival. We see some of the same people and a lot of new faces and performances each time.
We enjoy seeing the new costumes the regulars create each time, the new acts booked and of course the standard shenanigans that go on.
The Spring Mardi Gras brought out an interesting artist who uses fire to create works of art from wood, a giant fire canon, as well as some interesting circus style acts. Considering it was called THE FIRE SHOW, it really lived up to its name! Enjoy the gallery and share the images! We hope to see you all out there in August!
We started toying with engagement ideas and had discussed the possibility of snow photos which is not the easiest thing to obtain in NC. Mother Nature cooperated (which she so seldom did in 2015) with a beautiful fluffy snow that did not impact the roads too heavily. So a quick location pick and off we went to pose and play in the snow at Country Park in Greensboro, NC!
As the year progressed, I got to know Olivia and David more despite thier move out of state. We discussed and organized and I got to spend a pretty late summer day with Olivia and her entourage at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC for bridal portraits where we used the warm late afternoon sun to give her a golden glow for her fall feeling portraits (since we did not have actual fall leaf color to work with!).
October finally came and we were thrilled to be a part of this love story. We started the day with a stop by the J.H.Adams Inn where Olivia was getting ready. Quiet girl time in a beautiful room that the bride and groom would return to.
Olivia did her own flowers, baked all the pies and the cake. She really had a lot of herself in the details. Her family helped her decorate with all the fall touches from a candy buffet to leaves and pumpkins spread out through the reception hall. My Beautiful Wedding did an amazing job at the ceremony location on the Hillside Terrace with columns and fall vines, pumpkins and hanging candles. It was a perfect setting overlooking Castle McCulloch's small lake surrounded by fall trees. The Crystal Garden ballroom was vibrant with pops of teal among the fall hues and the smells of dinner provided by Rosa Mae's wafting through the air.
Hope you enjoyed a glimpse of Olivia and David's winter engagement and Fall Wedding!
It was hard to leave out the santa photos, family sessions etc. but to help narrow it down we decided on photos from the bulk of our business which is the wedding industry. Please enjoy this collage with the top 15 wedding/engagement photos of 2015!
Thank you to all our clients for making this a year for the records for us. We have enjoyed working with all of you and look forward to many more stories with you to come! We are so looking forward to an amazing year in 2016!

I am not the first photographer to bring this up, nor will I be the last but today was the last straw. It is not just weddings but any event. Today was my son's school pageant and I was a guest just like everyone else. I sat in a pew with my daughter anticipating a fun and wonderful performance. As my son and the rest of the children took the stage and I'm holding my daughter on my lap, out come the cameras. The school had just made an announcement about not blocking the aisles so the children could get down them, and suddenly there is a mad rush of people filling the aisles, getting as close as they can with their pop up strobe flashes on thier DSLR's.
As I continue to sit and shake my head and listen to the murmurs of frustrated parents around me, here come the cell phones. Held up to record the entire performance despite the fact there was a professional videographer there and you could purchase a dvd for the price of......a donation. A DONATION. One dollar, five dollars, ten dollars, whatever you had to give.
So your IPhone video was worth more than a donation and me being able to see my child perform live since you were blocking my view and the aisles were blocked by other parents who cared not a whit for the rules. THIS IS BEING A BAD GUEST. As I left, I listened to upset parents and I thought, this is what it is like to sit at a wedding and not be able to see the ceremony of a loved one because the person in front thinks they can capture a memory better than a paid professional.
I GET IT. I'm a mother, a daughter, a friend, a cousin. I KNOW what it is like to want to preserve each moment. I UNDERSTAND that not everyone has expensive equipment that allows them to sit in a pew and capture a moment without flash, without standing up and getting closer because I know how to use it. So I am patient. I just shake my head and move on...but other people don't have that capability and your choice to focus on your desire, and your child, friend, etc. is hindering everyone around you from enjoying that moment with thier child, loved one etc. We are living in such a self centered world, and there is no reason.
LIVE IN THE MOMENT. SHARE THE MOMENT and MAKE A MEMORY. Wait for the bride to share photos. Buy the professional DVD for the price of a donation. BE PRESENT at events and let people who are donating their time or being paid to be there, DO THEIR JOB! The bride, other parents, school, hosts, etc. will appreciate you so much more for it.
Sincerely,
Your Photographer and Fellow Parent/Guest

It was so difficult to choose our top photos (a terrible problem to have I know!) so we went with a scientific approach-photos used at bridal shows, venues and social media that have received the most attention/likes/comments/requests. Please enjoy a look back at some of our most popular photos over the past year, and join us in 2015 to watch many more love stories and romance come to life.
Wishing you years of love and laughter,
Stephen and Krista Smith

A wedding photographer is the one vendor that is truly with you, by your side basically, the entire time. It's really great to have developed a relationship with them. Is it necessary? no. I do enjoy it though.
I am a story-teller. In olden days, my job would probably have been a Bard, traveling from castle to castle singing songs of great deeds and love stories in exchange for a meal and shelter. (okay, really I would have been XENA warrior princess but I digress). Seriously, my job is to tell a story. The saying goes "a picture is worth a thousand words" and I talk...A LOT! I take a LOT of photos...and they tell stories. I tell your story to be exact.
Sometimes, to tell a story about a couple, we choose a theme based on
their likes and adventures together versus just colors, items, places that mean a lot to that couple. This fun session was Harry Potter themed at a Castle no less! Hogwarts and Harry have nothing on this adorable couple! I am so looking forward to shooting their wedding this weekend!
First and foremost my business partner and husband Stephen Smith for putting up with my dreams, climbing ladders, hanging things in trees, and keeping up with the yard work!

]]>I have been guilty of seeing Memorial Day as a long weekend that kicked off summer in the past; a time to go to the beach or pool or what have you. Then I married into a military family and it took on a whole new meaning. I started remembering to honor those who fought for us, who have died for us, to live this life we take for granted.
This memorial day, I will take my children to the pool and grill out and spend time living but it has forever changed for me again. This time, I am keeping a man I had the honor of knowing for the past decade in my heart. He gave me this life I love, because he fought for this country and forged his family which gave me my husband and my beautiful children. Everything is connected. Everything that comes before us, leads us to where we are and I love where I am. I love what I do and I love my family.
These are the reasons they fight for us. These are the reasons we remember. These are the emotions we have to go through because of their sacrifice. It isn’t pretty. It isn’t easy, but neither is going to war. It’s not supposed to be. The result is beautiful. Life is worth the sacrifice as hard as it is to lose those we love, we carry on for those left behind, for our future. My Father-in-Law loved his grandchildren, and we live for them. We remember and teach them respect and honor but carry on.
Thank you to all our servicemen and thank you to all the families who are remembering and carrying on today.

When a new baby is on the horizon we join together to lavish the couple with gifts and food, punch (I mean really, this is my favorite things about showers, please invite me, I want any excuse to have a good sherbet punch) and love. Everyone's heart pitter pats over the thought of a new bundle of joy to cuddle.
I love everything about both of these occasions. As an event photographer, the details are key to me. I know first hand that both occasions pass by in a blur for the participants. They are greeting, hugging, unwrapping, mingling trying to grab a bite to eat and saying their goodbyes to all the guests. Two months from the event, they will barely remember 10 things about the day until they look at the photos. Through those they get to relive each moment, each detail and feel the love all over again.
What is important for you to remember about a special celebration? Do you look for a specific feel to your photos from your big days?
In addition to light, color brings an extra depth and emotion to portraiture. Different color stimulates senses and draws you to a photograph. When mixing color and light the effects can be phenomenal. I was inspired by fire and the color orange. I wanted to bring warmth and boldness to a portrait session so I chose to carry that orange color all the way through.
The Look:
For her makeup I chose to use a pallet of bronzes on the orange side and created a mask of color from her cheekbones to above the brow doing a Smokey eye with a brown on her lids. I finished the look with a bright orange lip. I contrasted the boldness by doing soft curls in her hair and using a crown of fall flowers to pull more of an organic feel to the fashion and retain that exquisite warm color.
The Shoot:
On a extremely cold night we chose to light a bonfire to create the column of flame in the background and just at dusk when the sun slipped below the tree line, we used a silver reflector to bounce the ambient light as well as some of the firelight back on to subject. She was sitting about 10 feet in front of bonfire so I still retained quite a bit of that soft natural light. As the night progressed we moved closer to the fire and positioned reflector directly onto her (literally touching her at times) for more dramatic contrasting light. At one point we used the setting sun behind with the fire on the other side to pull the warm light around her. The result was some stunning warm vivid portraits that showed off the subject's dewy skin and stunning dark eyes.
Do you have a favorite color that you take inspiration from? How does this orange and fire session make you feel?

Everyone has their own method to choosing their top images-the most likes on Facebook, the most hits on the blog, the most comments, etc. My method is not nearly so technical. I am choosing images that mean the most to me, images that spoke to me because they brought new meaning to my work through new techniques or just the creative challenge or just spoke to my soul. I hope you enjoy my top 13 images and I am looking forward to shooting with all of you in 2014.

I also appreciate the history of the season, from the beautiful story of the nativity, to the rich stories of Santa Claus and even the study of the pagan roots of traditions such as the Yule log and tree. Yule in its most basic form is the celebration of light based on the shortest day of the year. Celebrated around Dec. 21st it has to do with the axis/tilt of the earth and all that scientific stuff but is referred to as the Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice has a rich history in many cultures dating back as far as a millennia in the Norse culture. Many of the traditions are carried through to modern culture and various religious practices: mistletoe, decorated trees, candles in the windows, etc.
The Vision:
When I was asked to do a more traditional and earthy Christmas shoot by my good friend Amy, I was immediately envisioning something golden and filled with light and natural elements more in tune with traditional Celtic Yule celebrations. I chose the colors green and gold to represent earth and light and designed a costume with traditional elements: long flowing skirt, high neck, cape and gloves. Amy and I gathered natural elements and snowflake ornaments in appropriate colors for her to design a wreathed headpiece. I lucked out in passing fields of dying soy beans that were beautifully golden and my inspiration was complete. I could see the image in my head. After contacting the owner of the property and getting permissions in order to shoot there, we were all set. The day was perfect, heavily overcast, windy, and amazing for my vision.
To Achieve this Look:
We used greens and browns on the eye, lace detailing to draw attention to the eyes and overlaid heavy gold pigment over eyes, brows and cheeks. I applied a golden brown for a neutral lip and a little bronzer to enhance the shadows of the cheekbones and a sparse fake lash. Most Images were 50mm at f1/8- 320- 1/4000. No reflector. I did break out the 19-35 wide but I liked the 50mm images better. If you have any questions about this concept please do not hesitate to contact me. Happy creating this holiday season!

]]>There were so many pictures to choose from that I decided to make a few collages to summarize her story. I loved that they waited to find out what the baby was until delivery so it was a really great moment walking out to the waiting room with her family (and I mean the entire family!) waiting anxiously for the news. A moment I will never forget! I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did.

The moral of the story: just have fun. Memories can be created and captured every moment of the day and the best photos are those that truly record the joy of a child laughing at silly noises, dancing to their imagination, and simply being full of life and innocence. Here are a few of my favorite session images this week from those fun moments at the Goette Kid's Studio.

So with the help from an amazing friend of mine, Amy Spease, we swept up,
cleaned up and set up. A lot of sweat and labor later, one truck load of vintage furniture,
and we had our first beauty shoot, during the middle of a monsoon.
(Seriously, water was over our ankles when we made a run for the truck, and we slid, spun, and shimmied our way through the pasture and yard through blinding rain). But we had an amazing shoot and I'm so excited to continue the renovations as well as doing more beauty shoots at The Barn.
After cleanup:
Beautiful Images with the lovely Amy. Thank you for helping me and believing in my dream.
